Our Team

In Gabrielle’s  12 year tenure as a Housing Authority Representative with the Birmingham and Jefferson County Housing Authorities only helped to fuel her desire to create real change. One day she received a phone call from woman and her family (a husband, two daughters, and a son) who had lost their house in a fire and wanted assistance from Section 8. There was no assistance that the housing authority could provide, as they did not offer emergency assistance of any kind.  Gabrielle looked elsewhere for aid for the family, unfortunately, there was no way for them to stay together as they had exhausted the temporary shelter provided by the American Red Cross, the family shelters were full, and there were also stipulations on both the men’s and women’s shelters that prohibited the family’s 10 year old son from being housed with either parent.  From the hopelessness of this situation, JIREH, INC was born.
